Crochet Baby Hat For Beginners / Written Pattern

If you are a total beginner, don’t worry! This beanie is super easy to make and it’s a great choice for your first crochet project. You can finish it in one hour. These beanies are perfect and so comfortable for babies. So, let’s start!

MATERIALS

Yarn – Any Dk (100% acryclic, 100g, 300m)

4 mm Crochet Hook

Yarn Needle

Scissors

STITCHES & ABBREVIATIONS

Ch = Chain

St(s) = Stitch(es)

SC = Single Crochet



NOTES

*Hat is worked back and forth in turned rows lengthwise.

*This pattern is written in 4 sizes: Early Born(0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-12 months). E.g. Ch 20(24,28,32) means Ch 20 for Early Born, Ch 24 for 0-3, Ch 28 for 3-6, Ch 32 for 6-12.

*US crochet terms are used in this pattern.

*The turning chain ch 1 DOES count as a SC. So skip the very first SC stitch and work in the second one.

*Total stitches are indicated in between < >.



FOUNDATION CHAIN: Ch 30(34,38,40).

ROW 1:  Using back side loops of chain base, SC into 2nd ch from hook, SC in each st until end, turn. 30<34,38,40>

ROW 2: Ch 1, working in back loops only, SC until end, turn. 30<34,38,40>

*Repeat ROW 2 until ROW 48(50,56,60).

*When you finish each row, you should have same number of stitches.

*Break yarn leaving a long end for seaming.




FINISHING

Take a yarn needle. Sew foundation chain and last row of. Use both loops of the foundation chain and only back loop of the last row. Weave end through last sts of each row along top edge. After finishing, you can hide the gap by adding a pom pom. Secure the pom pom on the top of the hat. Make sure that the pom pom is nicely attached to the hat and will not fall of easily.
